Map data
The sources behind the map
The map, the places and the distances on Stugtid are built on open data. Here you'll find each source, what we use it for and which licence applies.
The map
The base map, the buildings and the terrain
The map is drawn in your browser by MapLibre. The tiles are loaded directly from the sources below, without cookies.
- Map data
- © OpenStreetMap contributors. Roads, water, forest, buildings, ski lifts and place names. Licence: Open Database License (ODbL).
- Map tiles
- OpenFreeMap, built to the schema from © OpenMapTiles. The typeface for the map's names is Noto Sans (SIL Open Font License).
- Elevation data and terrain
- Terrain Tiles (Mapzen, on Amazon Web Services), compiled from sources including EU-DEM (Copernicus), ArcticDEM (Polar Geospatial Center), SRTM (NASA and USGS), GMTED2010 (USGS), ETOPO1 (NOAA) and Kartverket (Norway). The full list: Terrain Tiles, sources.
- The cabins' shape in 3D
- Hosts draw their own cabins, plots and outbuildings. The shape is shown at the cabin's approximate location until the booking is paid.
Places and areas
Searching for places
When you type a place in the search box, we search our own register. Nothing you type is passed on to any other service.
- Towns, villages and holiday home areas
- Statistics Sweden (SCB): Localities 2023, Small localities 2023 and Holiday home areas 2020. Licence: CC0.
- Place names and locations
- GeoNames: the names of small localities and holiday home areas, the extent of the municipalities, and the locations of mountains, ski resorts and lakes. Licence: CC BY 4.0.
- Mountains, ski resorts and holiday areas
- Our own list of the areas that guests search for, with locations from the sources above.
Nearby
The distances on the cabin pages
Distances are measured as the crow flies from the cabin's location. They are shown roughly (under 500 metres, under one kilometre, then in steps of half a kilometre), so that they don't reveal the cabin before it is booked.
- Trails, lean-to shelters and nature reserves
- Swedish Environmental Protection Agency: trails and outdoor facilities, and the Nature Conservation Register (nature reserves and national parks). Licence: CC0.
- Swimming spots
- Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management: the names and locations of swimming spots (Badplatsen, open data).
- Ski lifts
- © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), via OpenFreeMap.
- Nearest town
- Statistics Sweden: Localities 2023 (CC0).
How we show the sources
The source line on the map
When a map loads, "Map data © OpenStreetMap" appears in the corner. After five seconds, or when you move the map, the line folds into a small (i). Tap it to see all the sources and get here.
